The National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory/Supranational Reference Laboratory (It now also doubles as a Supranational TB Reference Laboratory for Rwanda, Eritrea, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zambia, South Sudan, Swaziland, Somalia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Liberia).
The laboratory was awarded the SRL status by the World Health Organization in April 2013 making it the second Supranational Reference Laboratory in sub Saharan Africa.
As a result of this elevation, the Government agreed to build the laboratory a new home with funding from The World Bank. The new home will be located in Butabika, a Kampala suburb. The project was estimated to cost about $2.4m.
The laboratory is currently located in Wandegeya, Opposite Ministry of Public Service. Shifting to the new facility is tentatively scheduled for July 2017.
